The judge of Prairie Fire’s Creative Nonfiction contest described Prairie Girls & Spring Rituals as:

“This story is funny, truthful, and honest, on the topic of a how a person can push through inhibitions, including cultural ones, that have become burdensome. Of course, that requires, first, an understanding of what the inhibition is and whether it has value still. Rayne’s ability to weave narrative with introspection and retain the drive is sure-handed. The use of humor is deft in that its presence supports the more serious element rather than fighting with it. There is a bright colour to the writing.”
